The Makeup of High-Control Groups

Learn the different ways we describe a high-control group and the emotional manipulation that happens within these high-demand, high-control, high-stress groups.

Step Two: Spotting Coercive Control

Module 9

Traumatic Nature of Purity Culture

Many culty groups will insist on purity of body, mind and spirit. This can cause havoc on sexual development and healthy relationships in adulthood. Learn the history of purity culture in fundamentalist religions and how to reclaim your body.

Step Four: Vulnerabilities & Safety in New Groups

Module 12

Many religious trauma and cult survivors struggle with conspiratorial thinking in their recovery. After all, you've been in groups teaching you that everyone is out to get you. Learn how to combat this thinking and start to feel grounded again.

Module 12

Green Flags & Safety in New Groups

Not all groups are toxic and scary. Learn the green flags to look for in new groups and how you can assess your emotional, spiritual and psychological safety when looking for new community and relationships. These skills help you reclaim your life.

What our students have to say:

Are you afraid of being overwhelmed? We've designed the program to reduce overwhelm.

Shelby, Student

I was worried about overwhelm because I struggle with that since addressing my religious trauma. The material describes in enough detail to help see the reality of high control groups, the exercises and worksheets are also very helpful for processing.

Farah, Student

When I signed up, I didn't understand why this was a membership, but I understand now.  It gave me space to process the experiences I had been through and what unhealthy things I had learned in my group without overwhelm. I highly recommend.

Not sure what exactly we'll be doing inside the program?
We teach you how to emotionally process in a healthy way.

Clare, Student

I found the concrete examples of how thought reform has been used in certain groups to be the most helpful. It helps me understand why my family entered into this and why it has been so hard for me to get out.

Emily, Student

Ahhh that my way of thinking and processing isn’t normal. I had a hard time figuring out why I think or feel the way I do when my family is still involved.  This absolutely changed how compassionate I can be towards myself

Are you afraid this won't apply to you or your group?

You aren't alone. Others worried about that too.

Michelle, Student

This membership helped me feel less alone by citing real-exciting examples or traits that are common across all high-control groups. Information is delivered gently, and appropriate trigger warnings are given beforehand. I really love all of the bonus content too—thank you so much for existing and offering a reasonable monthly price. Your services and platform are the most healing tools I’ve found since I left [my cult]. Every time I log in and watch your content, I’m reminded that: I’m not crazy, these things did happen to me, and it really is a big deal that my faith (perhaps the purest thing in my life) was used to manipulate and practically destroy my sense of self and my ability to reason for myself.

Laura, Student

I learned so much about thought reform that made me feel so much less alone. The thought reform content being broken down into the 8 ways, with each explained, and examples given. It was easy to see how the evangelical church I was part of used thought reform. It was so nice to see that I was not alone and others had been through this.

Angela, Student

I love how it's been broken into pieces that are digestible. I like how there's a PowerPoint to visually follow while she speaks. The examples are always super helpful to me. I've recommended this course to others that might feel alone or like their experience was "normal", even if it doesn't feel quite right to you.  You'll understand so much more after working through this material.

Meet your teacher

Hi, I'm Dr. Quincee

I am a clinical psychologist that specializes in religious trauma. I've helped my clients understand their experiences and leave their culty groups with dignity and self-understanding.

But before I specialized in helping others get out of these toxic environments and communities, I was surviving my own religious trauma.

recovering-from-cult-groups

But it wasn't always this way...

I lived through fear-mongering and unending messages about hell.

I was guilt-tripped for having normal human experiences.

I was terrified to lose every relationship that was important to me.

I felt like something was wrong with me for having questions.

I was isolated from the outside world.

When I broke free of the guilt, shame, and fear, I needed support from people who knew what it was like to be a part of a group like this.

That's why this membership means so much to me.

Here's the problem...

Cult groups are full of magical thinking.

  • And that magical thinking keeps us afraid of god or a leader punishing us for being human.
  • Our religious trauma is working against us because it teaches us that we can't trust our own instincts.
  • Our rigid religious or cult groups have used so much guilt and shame to control us for so long and we don't know what to do now.
  • Our groups have kicked us out, punished us for disagreeing and now we're feeling lonely and a little bit lost in what to do next.
recovering-from-religious-cults

I'm here to change that

Here's the truth:

Cult and religious groups manipulate and scare you to keep you stuck in their groups.

So, no more feeling lost and hopeless about healing after leaving a cult.

No more feeling overwhelmed with trying to find the right place to get education.

No more scouring Instagram or Tiktok trying to find folks that get it.

I'm saying "yes" to recovery

Does this sound like your religious or high-control group experience?

Feeling like god wanted my life small

Repressing feelings, Depressed and Lost

Feeling terrified & dependent

cult-recovery-therapist

Think about it this way...

What happens when I start to heal my religious trauma?

  • Imagine walking through the world with less fear and anxiety about hell, god's punishment, or other fear-mongering messages you heard. You no longer have to live with crippling fear and anxiety.
  • Imagine repairing your relationships with friends and family that you had to cut off when you were part of the restrictive group.  You no longer have to distance yourself and you can start to have some support again.

  • Imagine enjoying everyday activities (like reading, music, dancing, sports, and movies) that you once believed were wrong to enjoy. Turns out, life can be a little bit sweeter than it's previously been.
  • Imagine coping with normal life stress without fear that you are deeply sinful and flawed for being worried, angry or overwhelmed. Your human emotions no longer have to be so frightening.
  • Imagine coping with normal life stress without fear that you are deeply sinful and flawed for being worried, angry or overwhelmed. Your human emotions no longer have to be so frightening.

Our students are feeling relieved and ready to thrive

⏬️

Are you afraid that this course will make you less spiritual?

That's not our style.

KJ, Student

The major thing that I learned in this membership: That deconstruction is not questioning faith in God. I was so afraid I would be "talked out" of my faith in God, but that is truly not what happens here.  You can be religious, spiritual, or something else entirely and you'll still learn so much.

Miles, Student

Before I started this program, I looked high and low for whether Dr. Quincee was part of my religion.  I was nervous I would be "influenced" to be less spiritual.  Turns out, that's not what this program is about at all.  Its about what happened within an unhealthy group and how you can spot this stuff to protect yourself.

Are the tools you get in this membership helpful?

Our students say they are the best part.

Joseph, Student

I found the membership so helpful because there were such clear descriptions & definitions was incredibly helpful. I downloaded all the PDFs and used them as journal prompts to help in my recovery journey. All the tools and skills I learned here have changed my life.

Raquel, Student

This membership is relatable. And real - doesn't feel as much like reading a textbook or getting bored to death, which frees me up to engage with the content. I have even gone back and re-listened to some things and learned even more the second time through.

Michelle, Student

Shay saw this happen after joining YONMT:

"I finally have a plan for how to interact with my family (who are still in the culty group I escaped).  This has been so relieving for me!"

healing-from-cult-abuse

Laura said this after joining YONMT:

"I had never heard of the term 'Religious OCD' so this has totally changed my life in the most amazing way."

This is for you if:

  • You grew up in a fundamental, super-strict or culty religious group
  • You joined a group later in life but it had all the culty vibes and a big impact on your emotional health
  • You have a family member that got stuck in a high-control group and you're having a hard time understanding their experience.
cult-recovery-program
spiritual-abuse-healing

This is not for you if:

  • You aren't a trauma survivor and don't relate at all to the experience of religious trauma.
  • You are totally comfortable with your religious experience and don't think you need to address any toxic dynamics.
healing-from-purity-culture

Mary said this after joining YONMT:

"My relationship with my religion is personal and complicated.  It was so nice being in an environment where I was learning about unhealthy dynamics without feeling judged."

cult-abuse-and-recovery

Stacy found this during her YONMT journey:

"I learned how to navigate my experience with my culty group, while figuring out how to still interact with my family.  It's been the best gift."

Are you ready to understand what happened to you in that group experience?

No more white-knuckling it through.

Frequently Asked Questions

You aren't alone.

33%

Did you know 33% of U.S. adults have experienced religious trauma at some point in their lives?

3 Million

Some experts estimate that at least 3 million people living right now have been a part of a cult.

Real talk, my friend.

Religious and cult groups can cause some real damage.

And after you leave, you carry around the anxiety, fear, and grief that those groups caused you to feel.

It's time to let that sh*t go.  It's no way to leave and it's wearing you down over time.

Here's what's waiting for you on the other side of your indoctrination:

  • Freedom to feel the fullness of the human experience. I mean, like all your emotions (without being a bad person for it).
  • Shedding that guilt and shame because that is a heavy burden to carry.
